Project X
Following my study abroad experience in Italy, I returned home to teach Afro-futurism with the LSU Upward Bound Program. Students ranged from 9-12th grade with a class size of approximately 15 students. Students learned about the origin, cultural, historical significance, aesthetics, prominent influencers, and artwork created from the subgenre. Based on their exploration of Afro-futurism, students began to create their own fantastical narratives as superheroes and warriors while others revisited the past through an alternative lens.
